Engines

ENGINE
This vessel is designed to be a support vessel to a fleet of vessels and must therefore be able to operate for long periods of time on station. The Naval Architect is willing to work with you to install engines of your chosen Manufacture but strongly advises the use of Caterpillar Engines for this vessel. The vessel is designed to be operated anywhere in the world and must therefore be able to get spares for its engines when it next docks. One of the most prolific suppliers of spares is Caterpillar and there engines can be continuously rated for tropical conditions.

Designed to use twin Caterpillar 3512B DITA 1350 BHP at 1200rpm Vee 12, 4 stroke Diesel Engines. These engines can last forever and are able to generate the power from their 12 cylinders with 170mm Bore x 190mm Stroke with consummate ease. The power is transmitted down through the Twin Disc MGN 1024V reduction gearboxes with their 4:1 ratio to the twin Wageningen style 3 bladed 210mm Dia nickel aluminium bronze propellers.

GENERATORS
2 x Caterpillar C9 – 175ekW, 200kVa (0.8 power factor) 1500rpm, 415VAC, 3 Phase, 50Hz. This 4 stroke diesel genset has six in-line cylinders with 112mm bores x 149mm strokes producing a displacement of 538cu in or 8.8 Ltrs. The unit weighs approx 1753/1903kg.

The final size, quantity and type of the Generators will be discussed and determined after completion of power demand calculations on the overall ship.

Construction

This vessel was designed in conjunction with the world’s elite Marine Military and it was agreed the best solution was to have an all welded shipbuilding grade mild steel hull and a marine grade aluminium superstructure. The hull would be of round bilge with twin keels and would be a full displacement hull. Designed for fleet support it has four fast assault Ribs and it has a heli deck for maximum performance in a hostile situation. It is has also been designed as Fleet Support in facilitating on station refuelling, watering, servicing and repairing a fleet of 24m Patrol Vessels.

The vessel shall be arranged as follows from forward:-

Accomodation

All fittings shall be those most suitable for their respective duties and shall be of materials that are compatible with the marine environment. The vessel shall be finished to a high quality commercial standard. Generally, all internal areas shall be finished in a hard wearing, moisture resistant materials such as marine ply with laminex finish & teak or hardwood trims. All furniture will be Nyatoh or similar with a high grade varnish finish

Alternatively, acoustically rated, sandwich panel type partition bulkheads may be offered with deckheads in accommodation areas of the suspended, powder coated, metal strip type. All internal decks are to be fitted with a quality marine grade indoor/outdoor carpet with heavy duty rubber matting or vinyl to passageways & galley area.All upholstery shall be of high quality using durable fabrics suited to the environment. Common type key & lock sets are to be used on all doors incorporating a master key system. All internal stairways shall be timber tread with a stainless steel nosing strip. Stair grab rails are to be polished stainless steel. The final selections of materials and colour schemes shall be approved by the client prior to implementation.

LOWER DECK MAIN STORE AREA
The lower deck stores shall be lined and insulated and fitted with suitable shelving and storage facilities.

ORDINANCE STORE
An ordinance store will be fitted on the lower deck forward of the main store area. The store will be sealed via watertight bulkheads fore and aft accessible through fireproof watertight doors.

LAUNDRY ROOM
A fully fitted laundry room will be installed on the main deck fwd with 3 off large sinks supplied with hot and cold water, 3 off commercial grade washing machines and 3 off commercial grade dryers, 2 off ironing machines and lined dry storage.

The lower deck area and in way of refueling tanks: access aft through W.T. door to stores, & access through hinged, self closing clear PVC doors to hydraulic lifters.

DOUBLE bottom tank and bilge access through semi portable panels in floor.

PUMP ROOM
Located aft of Refueling tanks with access from above deck and to Engine Room. The pump room is to contain refueling pumps and the main switchboard. The pump room shall be acoustically lined with a treadplate floor fitted. A workbench and spares cabinet is to be fitted to this area. Acoustic partition bulkhead shall be fitted between the pump room & Engine Room

ENGINE ROOM
Access from the Pump Room and escape through B/HD to the aft Compartment. Engine Room is to contain all other main machinery and equipment. The space is to be acoustically lined with aluminium floor plates fitted.

AFT COMPARTMENT
Access from the Engine Room and escape through hatch to the main deck. The space is to be ventilated, lined with floor plates fitted.

MAIN DECK CREW MESS
The Crew mess area will be arranged on the upper deck as shown on the General Arrangement plan with built in bench style seating & upholstered seat & back cushions. Storage will be provided under the bench seating. Tables are to be fixed to the deck. Overhead cabinets are to be fitted to the aft bulkhead containing TV, video cassette player, AM/FM stereo radio / cassette player. The speaker system is to be recessed into the deckhead. Storage shelves & one 340 litre domestic fridge shall be fitted under the upper deck access stairway. Two double G.P.O.’s are to be fitted to the area.

GALLEY
The main galley will be arranged as shown on the General Arrangement plan on the main deck aft. The galley shall be fitted with the following equipment:

•One six burner commercial gas stove & oven, stainless steel, with extractor over & gas bottle stowage to upper external deck.
•One microwave oven (large convection type).
•One stainless steel double sink unit with mixer tap set.
•Garbage disposal unit.
•Combined freezer & cool room unit with air cooled refrigeration plant.
•One commercial dishwasher.
•One 20 litre hot water urn.
•One vegetable steamer.
•Stowage for twenty sets eating utensils, food and basic galley equipment.
•One wall mounted electric Salamander .
•One 600mm wide griddle and stand .

Under bench & overhead cupboards & draw storage are to be provided. A pantry shall be fitted with shelving and vented door. All doors & drawers will be fitted with suitable sea catches & locks. Bench tops adjacent to stove are to be stainless steel, with laminex to be fitted elsewhere. Three double G.P.O.’s will be fitted to the area.

FREEZER ROOMS & COLD STORE
A fully lined and insulated freezer room and cold store will be fitted in the main deck aft of the galley to stbd.
The Freezer room and cold store will be lined with stainless steel plate and fitted with stainless steel shelving.

OPERATIONS BRIEFING ROOM
FAB crew Briefing room to port on the main deck fwd of the crew mess with seating for up to twenty personnel.
The briefing room will be provided with an overhead projector and power for computers etc as required

MAIN DECK WASHROOMS & TOILETS
Washplaces shall be provided to the aft main deck area as shown on the General Arrangement plan. The washplaces shall incorporate the following:

•Residential type toilet complete with seat & lid.
•One wash basin with a pressurized hot & cold fresh water supply.
•One towel dispenser & waste bin.
•One toilet roll holder.
•One grab rail adjacent to W.C.
•One scupper at the low point of the compartment to discharge overboard
•Showers fitted with “water saver” shower rose and mixer supplied with pressurized hot and cold fresh water.
•Soap dish & shelf.
•Towel hook to door.
•Floor waste fitted with grate & arranged to discharge overboard.

The shower & toilet spaces are to be fitted with 240VAC extractor fans separately switched. The store area shall be fitted with a lockable weathertight door, ventilation & drainage.

MAIN DECK ACCOMMODATION
FAB crew accommodation fwd comprising 2 x 6 berth cabins with 2 x 4 berth cabins. Each cabin will be fitted with the following fittings:

•or 6 off, single berth bunk sets with spring mattresses & storage drawers to the lower berth.
•or 6 off, lockable, lockers with shelf.
•or 6 off, bunk lights.
•or 6 off, double General Power Outlet.

All accommodation access doors shall be fitted with kick-out grilles and fitted with escape hatches to the upper deck & an access door to the workshops.

MAIN DECK WORKSHOPS
A repair/ light engineering and machine tool work area will be installed on the main deck in way of the covered work area aft of the crew mess and fwd of the open aft deck. The work area will be outfitted as required with suitable storage and work benches/ areas.

Machine tools and specialized equipment for the maintenance & running repairs for the 9m Fast Attack Boats will be supplied as required. The workshops shall be fitted with 4 off General Power Outlet’s and F.W supply.

Access to the covered work area forward through a weathertight door to port.

At the aft end of the covered work area full width weathertight sliding doors will be fitted. Technicians workstations may be supplied & fitted to the client’s requirements at extra cost.

UPPER DECK ACCOMMODATION
The deckhouse will be arranged as shown on the General Arrangement plan with 8 x 2 berth cabins & shower / toilet facilities. There will be access stairs from the mess room & up to the bridge area.

Accommodation to comprise of the following:
Eight off, two berth cabins. Each cabin to be fitted with the following fittings:

•off, single berth bunk sets with spring mattress & storage drawers below berth.
•off, lockable lockers with 2 shelves.
•2 off, bunk lights
•2 off, double General Power Outlet

All accommodation access doors are to be fitted with kick-out grilles.

SICK BAY & SURGERY
A sickbay will be installed at the fwd end of the deckhouse with a surgery to stbd and a single cabin with office facilities to port for the medical officer, as shown on the General Arrangement plan.

The sick bay accommodation to comprise of the following:
•single berths. Each cabin to be fitted with the following fittings:
•off, single berth bunk sets with spring mattress & storage drawers below berth.
•off, lockable lockers with 2 shelves.
•off, bunk lights
•off, double General Power Outlet

The surgery will be outfitted as required by the relevant medical authority for general examinations and minor operations.
The medical officer’s cabin will be fitted as per the officers cabins on the bridge deck with the inclusion of a workstation with desk, cabinets and storage.

UPPER DECK WASHPLACE
Washplaces shall be provided on the upper deck as shown on the General Arrangement plan. The washplaces shall incorporate the following:

•Toilet compartments - 3 off
•Residential type toilet complete with seat & lid.
•One wash basin with pressurized hot & cold fresh water supply.
•One towel dispenser & waste bin.
•One toilet roll holder.
•One grab rail adjacent to W.C.
•One scupper at the low point of the compartment which shall discharge overboard.

Shower compartments - 3 off
•Showers fitted with “water saver” shower rose and mixer supplied with pressurized hot and cold fresh water.

BRIDGE
The Bridge area shall be arranged as shown on the General Arrangement plan & shall be fitted with the following:

•Console at centerline to contain all the machinery controls and instrumentation.
•Upholstered settee with stowage under, port & starboard.
•One helmsman’s seat 'Bostrum' or similar type.
•Chart table with drawers & desk light.
•Radio desk.
•Upholstered, raised, settee with stowage under, starboard aft.
•Upholstered, raised, settee & table with stowage under, starboard aft of bridge.
•Dumb Waiter (electric powered) from Galley area (fire rated casing).

SHIP’S OFFICE
The Ships Office shall be arranged as shown on the General Arrangement plan & shall include a desk, cabinets & storage. A bar fridge shall be fitted.

WHEELHOUSE ACCOMMODATION
Comprising Officer’s accommodation including two single cabins and either: two single or two double berth cabins, all with ensuite bathroom.
Each cabin will be provided with the following fittings:

•1 off, single berth with a spring mattress & storage drawers under & shelf over.
•1 off, lockable, double locker with 2 shelves.
•off, bunk lights.
•off, double General Power Outlet.

Bathrooms to contain the following:

•1 off, domestic type toilet complete with seat & lid.
•1 off, wash basin with pressurized hot & cold fresh water supply.
•1 off, towel rail.
•1 off, toilet roll holders.
•1 off grab rail adjacent to W.C.
•1 off, shower fitted with “water saver” shower rose and mixer supplied with pressurized hot and cold fresh water. Drain overboard.
•1 off, shower curtain & soap dish.
•One scupper at the low point of the compartment which shall discharge overboard.

The bathroom is to be fitted with 240VAC extractor fans separately switched

A small security safe is to be fitted to one cabin.

Decking Equipment

ANCHORS & CHAINS
Two off, galvanised, cast steel Admiralty pattern anchors, as required by the USL code shall be provided for the vessel, suitably stowed in hull recesses & hawser pipes in the bow area.
The chains shall free fall through spurling pipes into self-draining free standing Grp/Ply chain bins. A 'bitter end' connection shall be fitted to both sets.

Anchors: 2 x 480 Kg Admiralty Pattern
Chain: 2 x 240m , ø24mm short link


ANCHOR WINCH
1 off, hydraulically powered, horizontal shaft, anchor winch shall be installed on the foredeck. The winch shall incorporate twin chain gypsies & brake assemblies a single capstan, a dog clutch for free falling and crank lever for manual retrieval of anchors. The Windlass shall be suitable for the specified anchor and chain and will be capable of retrieving the anchor from a depth of 80 metres. The shipyard shall supply & fit a suitable electro-hydraulic power pack to the forepeak area. Winch controls shall be fitted & located adjacent to the winch and in the wheelhouse. A suitable chain stopper and lock shall be fitted to the ships structure.

BOLLARDS & FAIRLEADS
15 off, fabricated steel rope bollards, twin post type with plate capping, to be fitted as shown on the arrangement plan. The foredeck and transom bollards shall be additionally stiffened to allow rigging for towing or cyclonic mooring. Fairleads or hull protectors will be fitted adjacent to all bollards. Fairlead openings will have a minimum 50NB heavy wall stainless steel nosing to openings and to be cut flush to deck level.

DECK CRANE
2 off 3500kg SWL SeaCranes will be installed on the aft main deck of the vessel as shown for launching and recovery of the 4 Fast Attack Boats. The cranes will have fixed non extending arms with a min reach of 7.5m and a total slewing angle of 320 degrees. The cranes will be positioned so as to ensure redundancy – ie. Either crane will be capable of launcing and recovering any and/ or all of the FABs.

A 320 VAC electro-hydraulic power pack with aluminium tank supplied with the cranes, shall be fitted to the machinery space & plumbed to the cranes. Each crane will be fitted with local and remote controls.

LIFERAFTS
5 off, twelve man RFD liferafts complete with hydrostatic releases and gravity launching racks shall be provided. The liferafts shall be installed to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

LIFEJACKETS
54 off, adult size SOLAS lifejackets complete with lights and whistles shall be provided.

MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT
The following equipment shall also be supplied:

•off parachute distress rockets.
•off red hand flares.
•off orange hand smoke signals.
•1 set NC flags & rescue signal tables suitably stowed in the wheelhouse.
