Wright International Ltd has been given the honour of selling a true blue water sailing yacht that is a real credit to its owner. The owner of this yacht worked well with a Canadian naval architect and a ship yard in China to design and build a true blue water cruiser to ABS classification. When you look at most super yachts, they may be the most attractive yachts in the world, but if you actually want to cruise anywhere, by the time you secure your crystal chandeliers and remove the fine china, you have already lost a days sailing! This yacht was designed for serious passage making with a high quality but always practical accommodation onboard. No expense was spared on this yacht, with 17 berths, a library and a sauna to name but a few of this yacht’s amazing qualities.

This 38m Blue Water Cruiser was designed to be as comfortable and capable under power as it is under sail. It is with this in mind, the architects designed the yacht to carry 18,000 litres of fuel and 16,000 litres of fresh water onboard.
The owners cruised from Hawaii to Vancouver onboard using only the engine. On this trip, the yacht was only burning around 3 gallons per hour at 8 knots with over 1000 gallons of fuel onboard when they reached Vancouver.
The engine itself is a turbo charged Cummins QSM-11M diesel engine producing 336 Kw or 450hp @ 2100 RPM. This engine is coupled to a 5JF-528 twin disc gearbox. To date, this engine has logged around 600 hours since 2004 and has been serviced and maintained regardless of costs. The engine has a 10.8 litre displacement with 4 valves per cylinder.
It is obvious with only a quick glance that this is a true blue water cruiser, however when you start looking at the fine details and amazing pre-planning of the owner, designer and manufacturer…….this is perhaps the finest ocean cruiser you could ever imagine.
For example, the engine is fitted with twin Racor FX-1000 fuel filters. You may be questioning the significance of this, but in the mid Atlantic, you can change the fuel filters with the engine still running. There is also a pre-filter to all engines and generators onboard for extra security to allow the engines to run smoothly regardless of where in the world you are.
The main engine has 2 x 8D starting batteries as well as a 130 amp alternator.
There are 2 x 25Kw generators onboard that are powered by Yanmar 4JH2-HTE turbo charged intercooled diesel engines producing 55Kw or 75hp at 3600 RPM. You can power all the ships electrical systems with only 1 genset with a single Yanmar running at only 1800 RPM giving about 38.5hp. This makes it very economical to run when required.
Like many aspects of this yacht, the gensets were prepared by one of the most trusted names in the world. For the gensets, these were designed, assembled and sound proofed by Emerson Power with only 740 hours logged to date.
As this yacht comes complete with 17 berths, it was essential from the design stages to allow equal distribution of water regardless of where you are onboard. As a result of this, there is a 40 gallon pressure water accumulator tank located in the engine room. This tank is located next to the 40 gallon hot water tank and maintains a pressure of between 30 – 50 psi regardless of where you are onboard.
With any blue water cruiser, you have to pre-plan your energy use to ensure you always have power when you require it. One ingenious way of doing this is to install a hot water system like the owners have. The hot water tank has a re-circulating pump and is only activated when hot water reaches normal temperature. This eliminates running the hot water in order to get hot water at the faucets. The owner has never used the hot water tank in the Caribbean, as the showers are just right at the ambient temperature.
The electrical system onboard has been designed to run the gensets for only a few hours per day, normally for evening meals etc. There is a 7500 watt Trace inverter to provide AC power throughout the yacht when the gensets are not running. This allows for all the music and entertainment systems to run 24 hours a day if required or perhaps more importantly, keeps the fridge running and the beer cool!!
For the provision of fresh water, despite carrying 16,000 litres of fresh water, this can go down fast on long voyages. As a result you the owners installed a 40 gallon per hour water maker to keep these tanks topped up at all times.
The engine room also houses a full workbench and tool shop to allow you to not only carry out routine maintenance tasks onboard, but also provide you with us much space and equipment for emergency repairs. Equipment in this area includes a vice and drill press. There are also a number of drawers and cabinets to allow you to keep all tools and parts close to hand.
The engine room due to its central location also houses three bilge pumps. These pumps include:-
• One automatic with an alarm system in the galley,
• One manually activated 120V bilge pump,
• One 5cm bilge pump powered by the fire fighting pump engine
In order to make oil and filter changes easier on the three engines onboard, the three engines are equipped with a lubricating oil pump out system.
Any engineer will tell you, engine rooms become very warm….FAST. If you are planning on cruising for extended periods at a time, it may be the case that you or a member of your crew will be in the engine room for longer than you could comfortable bare. As a result of this, there are 2 x 15cm CFM fans drawing in fresh air from outside to try and keep the engine room as cool and fresh as practically possible. At the same time, there is a 22cm fan drawing warm air out of the engine room. With these fans running, the engine room temperature is approximately 15 degrees Fahrenheit above ambient room temperature at cruising speed.
The owners also instructed for a full engine room fire suppression system to be installed. A fire onboard any boat is a sailor’s worst nightmare, and whilst we do not want to put this to the test…….you probably will not find a more secure system than this!! The fire suppressions system kicks in automatically at 165F, you can also activate this manually with a manual release pull cord. This is located near the main companion way in a very convenient location for all to use if required.
There are of course a number of fire extinguishers located throughout the yacht as a measure of safety and common sense.

The owner sought the guidance and services of a highly skilled naval architect in Canada. From day 1, it was import that everyone involved appreciated that although this would be a large sailing yacht, easily described as a super yacht or mega yacht….it must never loose the characteristics of being a fully practical and functional blue water cruiser.
It was agreed with the designer and owner that the best material for this yacht would undoubtedly be steel and that the Chinese were and still are the best manufacturers of a yacht of this class.
The hull itself was constructed from no less than eight blocks for extra strength. The owner wanted to oversee the workmanship and made the crucial decision to move to China and watch his dreams develop in front of his very own eyes.
The construction is very similar to those more commonly seen in our tugs and cargo ships, with “bulb bar” framing used to offer as much strength and durability as possible.
The blocks used to in making this yacht were all sandblasted and immediately painted. The main advantage of this is the provision of a very clean and smooth surface. Had the hull been sand blasted then painted at a later date, more dirt would have formed under the paint making the life expectancy of the paint far less than it is now.
The hull thickness measurements range from 6mm to an impressive 12mm. At 12mm, you are very close on being ice class although it is important to stress this is not an ice class yacht.

If you have not already picked up the phone to arrange a viewing…..you soon will. In a brief summary, this true blue water cruiser offers accommodation for a total of 17 onboard with opening hatches in all cabins, as well as offering a large saloon, dinning room, laundry room, sauna, office, library and a galley finer than your average hotel!!
Starting from the bow and working aft…………..
• Crew Cabin
The crew cabin forward offers four berths in a very comfortable cabin. The owner and designer appreciates the concept if you look after your crew, they will look after you and your boat. As a result of this, each crew berth is 6’4” in length (193cm) with plenty of light and ventilation throughout.
There is a ladder in this cabin leading to a teak deck hatch which not only gives the crew and guests more privacy if required, but also doubles up as a great means of emergency escape.
This cabin is equipped with not only air conditioning and heating, but a number of safety devices such as smoke alarm, smoke detector and fire extinguishers.
As this cabin is aimed primarily at crew use, there is also a Horizon Digital Omni repeater showing the speed, depth etc to allow the crew to know what is happening 24 hours a day. The crew can then decide to alter course etc or contact another area of the yacht including the helm with the intercom system, whichever action is most appropriate.
This cabin comes complete with a number of storage areas including lockers for extended cruising.
• Crew Heads Compartment
The heads compartment for the crew is finished to a high standard with brass fittings throughout. The shower cubicle is more in line with what you would expect in a hotel as this measures 90cm x 100cm x 200cm. The shower and wash hand basin drains directly into the holding tank.
There are a number of finishing touches in this cabin including soap and shampoo dispensers, shaver power point, air-conditioning outlet, fluorescent lighting etc.
• Captain’s Cabin
If you are planning on spending a long period of time sailing the 7 seas, the Captain is perhaps the second most important person onboard to please…….second only to the wife of course!
The captain’s cabin is a single cabin that offers the captain comfort and privacy in a fully air conditioned and bright surrounds. The berth itself measures 193cm x 97cm (6’4” x 3’2”).
There is a small navigation station in this cabin to let the Captain know what is happening at all times. This includes VHF, Speed, Depth, and an intercom system to all other areas of the yacht. Unlike the crew cabin, there is also a Sat phone in this cabin for both telephone and internet access.
This cabin, like all others onboard has a wide array of storage spaces from shelves, drawers to cabinets. Again with safety being paramount, there are a wide range of safety devices from fire extinguishers to smoke detectors etc.
• Forward Passageway
The forward passageway runs from the centre point of the yacht to the bow. This passageway is finished to the same theme as the rest of the yacht. In other words, finished to a high standard but remaining practical and functional at all times
As you walk through this passageway, you will find a solid brass handrail run the full length as well as smoke detectors, smoke alarm, fire extinguishers, air conditioning outlet and a circuit breaker panel.
• Forward Twin Guest Cabins
As you head aft, you will find two identical twin guest cabins. These cabins are again finished to a luxury standard but remaining fully functional and practical at all times. This is a yacht that’s design was more aimed at cruising the 7 seas rather than the being in a marina at all times.
These cabins both have 2 single berths measuring 83cm x 198cm (38” x 78”) with full air conditioning and lighting throughout. These cabins also have a writing desk with stool as well as large storage areas including drawers, cabinets, shelves and under berth storage.
These cabins like all others are equipped with full safety apparatus from smoke alarms, detectors and fire extinguishers.
• Forward Heads Compartment
The forward heads compartment is one of the larger heads compartments onboard. It is here you will find a 173cm (68”) counter with 2 stainless steel sinks as well as a soap dispenser and a Moen faucet and 4 brass towel rails.
The shower cubicle measures approximately 100cm x 87cm x 196cm and again is a Moen pressure unit. The toilet itself in this compartment is a Vacuflush unit that uses fresh water flushing.
• Forward Double Guest Cabins
As well as having 2 twin guest cabins, there are also 2 double guest cabins as well. These berths measure 196cm x 147cm (77” x 58”) with overhead reading lights and air conditioning units installed to make these cabins as comfortable as possible, especially in warmer climates.
These cabins also come complete with full safety equipment from fire extinguishers to smoke alarms. Your guests are also provided with a desk and stool with a satellite phone providing internet access if required as well as an intercom system to the rest of the yacht.
When it comes to storage onboard, as this yacht was designed to go round the world, there plenty of storage from under berth storage to lockers and drawers.
• Main Saloon
The main saloon onboard this blue water cruiser is located to port. This are was designed to be the focal point onboard and as a result, not only do you have seating for everyone onboard, but you also have a full entertainment system to boost.
The entertainment system onboard includes:-
• Sony stereo system with synthesizer,
• Two tape deck player,
• CD player
• DVD player
• Flat screen TV
• 16 speakers throughout the saloon
The fully air conditioned saloon has a number of opening hatches and overhead lighting making this a very bright and airy area regardless of where you are in the world.
For those of you looking to cruise in more cooler climates or for those looking for a romantic retreat……..we have a little something extra just for you!! Now imagine the scene, you are anchor lying in the Caribbean with the sun setting in the horizon…..your guests and crew have all retreated to there cabins for the night……and it is just you and your partner……..with a bottle of your favourite wine………and now add an electric heater with flame like effect. The flame like effect can be operated with or without giving any heat…..but certainly sets the right mood and atmosphere onboard.
• Library and Office
Onboard this yacht, you will find an area to starboard of the saloon that has been set out as a library and study. This area has proved very popular with guests onboard. When you are at sea, the Pentium 4 PC with 15” LCD monitor can display where exactly you are aswell as showing you weather forecasts, local news and being able to send and receive emails.
There is also a library with approximately 700 titles to choose from, with a further 200 books in the aft cabin. One of the other features of this area is an illuminated 20” world globe……allowing you sit back and plan where you would like to cruise to next……….in the comfort of knowing this yacht is ready to set sail to wherever you choose!
For those of you partial to an alcoholic beverage onboard, there are 75 bottles of wine and 200 cans of beer to choose from!!
• Dinning Area
When it comes to entertaining your friends and family, it doesn’t matter if you are in the middle of the marina or the middle of the Atlantic…..food preparation and presentation will always be a lasting memory for all onboard. That is why as well as a saloon area, there is also a dinning area with seating for 14.
There is a 4.3m x 1.1m (14” x 44”) dinning room table made of Douglas fir with a Maple edge inlay. There are a number of opening hatches in this area to provide you with plenty of fresh air and natural light, however there are also 2 dimmable chandeliers dating to 1920 for that extra finishing touch.
• Galley
The galley onboard a true blue water cruiser should play a more vital part in the design than most architects would give credit…….luckily the owner and designer of this yacht agree with us on this and have presented a galley that is quite simply a gourmets delight. This galley is fully equipped for serious passage making aswell as for entertaining friends and family onboard.
This galley includes:-
• Full size Whirlpool CFC free high efficiency two-door refrigerator/freezer with water and ice dispensers
• Whirlpool 'Quiet wash' dishwasher.
• Double stainless steel sink with top quality In-Sinkerator food disposer
• Activated charcoal cold water filter
• LG brand Microwave
• Full size cooker and oven
As well as this, there is a wide range of hatches, overhead lighting and of course fire fighting equipment close to hand.
• Aft Passageway
Like the forward passageway, this area offers a degree of luxury and class with brass fixtures and original art work, but this area also remains fully functional and practical with plenty of lighting and safety equipment nearby.
• Laundry / Utility Room
This yacht is possibly equipped with more white appliances than your own home. In the laundry and utility room, you will find the following:-
• Whirlpool stacked, heavy duty, large capacity washer/dryer
• Large laundry sink
• 3m (9') of counter space.
• 11 cubic foot deep freeze powered via inverter.
• 14 cupboards of storage space for linen, towels, bedding, etc.
Again, like all other areas onboard you will also find smoke detectors, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers throughout for extra safety onboard.
• Aft Double Cabin
As you head aft, you will find a double cabin with possibly the most storage space out of all the cabins. This cabin has storage in shelves, drawers and cabinets but a further four drawers under the berth as well.
Like the other cabins, this cabin also has full safety and fire fighting equipment as well as an intercom system to the rest of the yacht.
This cabin is en-suite for extra comfort and privacy. This heads compartment comes complete with brass fixtures, a Vacuflush toilet, Moen wash hand basin and shower and a range of opening hatches and lighting to make this a very bright area.
• Sauna
Lets be honest, after a hard days sailing it would be great to find a way of unwinding and relaxing onboard. It is with this in mind that the owner and architect specified that a sauna was to be installed.
This sauna is powered by a “Ultimate” stainless 6Kw sauna heater. This heater is ideal as it heats the sauna fast and does not require as much power as other units. The sauna itself measures 136cm x 240cm x 204cm (54” x 94” x 81”) with a waterproof fibreglass base. The walls and ceiling of the sauna are Cedar lines with 2 Cedar benches measuring approximately 150cm in length (60”).
It is important to realise that this yacht was designed to have a sauna onboard from day 1. Many super yachts have had saunas installed retrospectively and this can cause concerns and problems with the effects on the structure of the yacht. However, this yacht was designed to handle the heat, humidity and power of the sauna from day 1.
• Aft Stateroom
Last, and by no means least is the owner’s aft stateroom. This stateroom offers you a queen size bed with over head lighting and full air conditioning to make this as relaxing as possible. This cabin has many extras over the other cabins including a library, large desk, relaxing sofa and a large chest of drawers designed for housing a TV and DVD unit as well.
This cabin is en-suite for extra privacy onboard with a 88cm x 77cm x 200cm (34” x 30” x 79”) Moen shower cabinet. This en-suite facility has more storage than the others with the intention of the owner being onboard longer than the guests.
As the owners stateroom is as large with the en-suite facility, you will struggle to find any facility available in a local hotel that is not available onboard.
Onboard this globetrotting blue water cruiser is a wide range of deck equipment and accessories. As you would expect by now, everything onboard was designed with practicality and functionality being more important than how aesthetically pleasing it would be in a Mediterranean marina.
For example, onboard you will find the following:-
• Stainless steel bow pulpit approximately 1m (38”) from the deck with a varnished wooden grating on the base of the stainless steel bowsprint. This bowsprint is ideal for when you are anchoring or working with the sails……but when it really comes into its own is when you are sailing through the tides and waves. If you look at the photographs above, you will understand what I mean by this.
• For anchoring, there is a Muir 5000 electric windlass with a 100kg main anchor with 80m (230’) of certified anchor chain.
• There are a total of 22 deck hatches providing light and ventilation to the accommodation below.
• There are also 2 further hatches leading to the sail and rope locker as well as to the crew cabin forward.
• With regards to a tender, this yacht offers a 5m tender with a 45hp Honda Outboard and a 4.3m Whitehall rowing boat.
• One of the other features on this yacht which can prove to be invaluable is the pneumatic operated teak hatch above the saloon. You can open this hatch and position it in any direction you like to get the most from the sun or sea breeze.
• The stanchions and stern pulpit again measure approximately 1m (38”) from deck level.
• There is exterior seating for friends and family upholstered in a light grey with navy blue piping.
• The aft dining table seats 12 in comfort with the stainless steel and aluminium barbeque close by for the perfect summers evening meal. The aft table also houses aluminium covers for the 22 deck hatches if required.
• As an extra finishing touch, the owner specified for rope lighting to be installed under the toe rail to illuminate and guide you on the deck. This gives a very atmospheric setting to an evening sunset.
From a very early stage of design, it was obvious this yacht would have to be capable of handling large seas and high winds. It was with this in mind that the following sails and rigging were specified by the owner and architect to handle just that…..with hundreds of miles sailing covered proving how successful this rig is.
The spars on this rig were manufactured in Canada from 12mm (1/2”) aluminium plating with the top one third of the rig being made from a lighter 8mm (3/8”) plate. The tops of these spars are all tapered for increased strength and performance.
The sheaves onboard measure 20cm (8”) in diameter with the halyards all leading to Antal rope clutches. There are a number of Antal and Lewmar blocks used for the ropes as these are by far the strongest and most reliable available to the open market.
The standing rigging on this yacht is swaged to Ronstan swaged fittings. The rigging itself ranges from 26mm to 18mm depending on the loads.
All aerials and antennas are mounted on the aft mast with the running lights being on the fore mast.
With regards to the winches onboard, there are manual Lewmar winches mounted on the mast to help with the topping lift etc. There are however electric Lewmar winches powered from the 24V bank of batteries onboard making the number of crew required to sail this yacht far less than you may imagine.
This yacht comes complete with 4 sails all manufactured from Sail East in Hong Kong. These sails include jib, staysail, foremain and mainsail. The yacht was designed to be sailed with only a short handed crew and as a result, when tacking the jib is the only sail that requires your attention. The staysail is fitted with a self tacking boom and curved track on deck.
Both the main sails are loose fitted with Harken “Big Boat” Battcars, track and Headboard cars
The navigation equipment onboard this blue water cruiser had to be capable of true passage making. When you look at the equipment onboard, it is obvious the owners agree with us on this. Onboard the equipment includes:-
• A MiniQ, Pentium 4 computer with a 17” LCD monitor is located onboard to allow you to check emails, news and weather reports etc. This is connected to a Cannon i550 printer if required.
• Automap Sunlight
• Clock And Barometer
• Cummins LCD Multi Function Engine Display
• Cummins Warning Panel With Alarm and Cancel Button
• Furuno GPS Navigator
• Hailer-PA and Intercom System
• Hobelt Main Engine Controls
• Horizon Wind Speed

• ICOM VHF
• ICOM-M600 SSB
• Inclinometer
• JRC Depth Sounder / Fish Finder
• Raytheon R1210XX 72 Nautical Mile Radar
• Sony Stereo
• Tracphone Satellite Phone
Safety equipment onboard this yacht includes:-
• 20m (70'), 5cm (2") Fire Hose
• Fire Extinguishers Located Throughout The Yacht
• Flare Storage Compartment
• Lifeline Gate To Both Port and Starboard 0.8m (32") Wide
• Smoke Alarms Throughout The Yacht
• Two 10 man SOLAS Life Rafts With Hydrostatic Release
