Engines

It is essential when considering which Tug to purchase to work out where in the world the engines in particular can be serviced. Most of the “cheap” tugs have engines that can only be serviced in one part of the world. This obviously restricts where the tug can be operated. That is why this vessel is fitted with the ubiquitous Cummins engines that are able to be serviced in almost any port in the world.

MAIN ENGINES
2 x Cummins KTA38 – M2 engines delivering 1200BHP @1800 rpm. The power is transmitted down through the twin disc ration 5.96:1 gearboxes to the shafts and the fixed pitch propellers in Kort nozzles

GEN SETS
To keep it simple for spares and accessories, this vessel is using matching Gen Sets with the 2 x Cummins 6BT 5.9-D(M) Gen Sets which deliver 75kw each.

Construction

When this Tug was being designed it had to be built for a very competitive market. So the designers decided it could either be built to compete on cost or it could be built to last. With so many cheap tugs proving to be a waste of money and only very small companies and some Accountants electing to go down this route: it was decided to make it as competitive as possible without sacrificing QUALITY.

Take a look at the design. Take a look at the specification and you will see that this vessel exudes these qualities. The scantlings on this vessel are at just 500mm centres. The welding has all been carried out by fully qualified coded welders and from the design stage upwards the vessel was built to comply with the stringent rules and regulations of Bureau Veritas.

If you want a tug to work for you day after day, irrespective of weather then this is the tug for you. If you want a tug that will last long enough to pay for itself over and over again without huge repair bills – then this is the tug for you.

Accomodation

This tug has been designed as a workhorse and to work contracts that will require up to 12 men being on board for prolonged periods of time. In order to make life as bearable as possible without encroaching on the real purpose of the vessel, the designers used the multi cabin arrangement over the dormitory accommodation.

2 x 1-berth cabin
2 x 3-berth cabins
1 x 4-berth cabins
Total accommodation: 12men

As well as the heads / showers and saloon there is also the Galley. It is fitted out to serve the 12 men when they require to be fed and the fridge and cooking facilities have again all been built in to the Bureau Veritas standards of excellence.

Domestic refrigerator: 1 @250litres
1 x 4-hotplate electric stove, etc

Individual air-conditions in cabins, mess room, galley and wheelhouse.
