When you think of a Landing Craft being asked to work in hostile waters you imagine it is a sitting duck for anyone attacking it. Now imagine you are in a Wright International Ltd Fast –Modern – State of the Art Landing Craft with its THREE engines are transporting you through the water with 10 Tonne Payload at up to 40 Knots.
To do this our Naval Architect has utilised all modern technology to build in the power to achieve this performance. Utilising the computer to calculate the best power to weight ratio the Architect has decided to use:-
2 x MTU 6R 183 TE93 engines, each producing 600BHP @ 2300 rpm. flexibly mounted to the engine bed, with the engines directly coupled to the ZF IRM 350PL Gearbox down to the 2 x FF375 Waterjets.
1 x MTU 12V 183 TE93 Booster Engine with a massive 1150 BHP @ 2300 rpm again transmitting the power down to the FF450S Waterjets.
This gives you the option of a max speed of 31 Knots with two engines or an evasive speed of up to 40 Knots fully laden.
Everything has been though of and just as an example:-
Both the engines will be fitted with PTO shafts on the port side for the fire pump & deck wash and on the starboard engine for the emergency bilge pump.
Both the gearboxes will be fitted with power take offs for the hydraulic controls.
The cooling will be fresh water with freshwater pumps, heat exchangers and oil coolers with sea water driven pumps. This allows the vessel to be used anywhere it is required to be used for the Military specification application.
