Engines

Any sailor will tell you the last thing he wishes to engage is the auxiliary engine as yachts are designed to be sailed and not powered. It is therefore only in an emergency or in close quarter manoeuvring that the engine will be required. So when Oyster designed this boat they chose one of the most reliable engines to ensure it worked when required. The Volvo MD22, 4 cylinder 59 HP diesel engine with its 120 S – Drive gearbox provides that safety net. There is a Maxprop 3 blade propeller which is in good condition. The Primary alternator is 60A / 14v and the Secondary alternator 130 A / 12 v. A Racor model 500FG fuel filter and water separator is also fitted.

There is a Vetus tunnel bowthruster for bringing the boat into the Marine.
The central heating is by Webasto and the DW80 system was selected for this vessel.
The Frigomatic refrigeration system cools things down for you.
There is adequate water making facility with the Seafresh watermaker delivering 60 Litres per hour when required.

TANKAGE

When you design a yacht for Ocean passages the sails are the most important aspect of the boat. However for safety and for essential supplies it is also essential that the tankage is adequate for the well being of the crew.

This boat has the following built in:-

•Fuel 360 litres in GRP tank.
•Water 500 litres in GRP tank.
•Hot water front 34 litres grade 1 copper tank, heated by the engine's heat exchanger or by a 220V, 2kW immersion heater.
•Fuel and water Tank Tender tank gauges.
•Gravity draining holding tank in stainless steel fbr aft heads with Wema gauge and deck pumpout.

ELECTRICS

Construction

When Oyster Marine Ltd built this vessel, they built it to last and to safely sail anywhere in the world. This vessel was designed by Holman and Pye, commissioned in 1996 and built to Lloyds standard. The GRP hull was designed to take the impact of Ocean waves and it has proved to be most effective as this vessel has already circumnavigated the world and returning the Crew safely back to base.

The owners of this German registered vessel have maintained it to the highest level and the vessel is a credit to them. The vessel is fitted out in true Oyster Class with its teak decks providing sure footing whether you are going down to the split anchor locker forward or the bathing platform with teak slats aft. The cable steering has a destroyer type wheel and there is a Fim emergency tiller steering for emergencies.

The masthead sloop rig is by Selden and the headsail is Hood Seafurl furling. The Spinnaker is by Kemp and includes a single pole with up/downhaul halyard, sheets, guys, blocks and fittings. The pole is stowed vertically on the mast. The boomvang is by Lewmar and the backstay adjuster is Harken B502. There is also a removable forestay for the storm jib. Of course being an Ocean boat there is also a Windex at the Masthead.

The hull strengthened for Ocean Cruising has a high performance bulb keel.

Accomodation

Life in 2007 is designed round the convenience living and the pampered surroundings with every mod con and comfort being thrown into today’s housing. So how do you build a vessel for Ocean passages that will not drive the crew to mutiny half way there? The answer is you get Holman and Pye to find the solution for you. That is why this Oyster 45 is fitted out with not only endurance but with comfort in mind as well.

This boat has six berths in three cabins and they are all fitted out to make the crew and guests as comfortable as possible, no matter whether it is for one night in the Marine or a circumnavigation of the world. The ambiance is set by the use of clever use of materials. The interior is of light oak with the cabin soles made from teak and holly style plywood boards. As with all in vogue architecturally designed housing, this boat has its own “shadow gaps” built into the joints between the joinery panels keeping with the modern yet practical way of construction. The joinery extends to the sculpted grabrails and handholds. The upholstery is blue Alcantara which is excellent in both warm and cooler climates.

Forward Cabin :- you have a choice of either two single “V” berths or using the infill section you can have a large double berth. The clever use of teak and blue makes the forward cabin a warm friendly place to be on the long nights at sea. Every conceivable being used for storage including a capacious hanging locker. The reading lights allow for plenty of light without draining the batteries.

Twin Guest Cabin (Port) :- designed with upper and lower bunks to allow space for the integral clothes lockers and hanging locker.

Heads (Starboard):- if you wish to look after your guests there is no better way than to make sure they have a clean, bright spacious heads to refresh themselves in the morning or after a hard day on deck. The heads in this Oyster 45 has a large Par bowl WC, washbasin, mirror, storage lockage and of course that spacious shower with curtain and teak planked grating to allow the water to flow away easily.

Saloon :- Take a look at the warm spacious saloon with the clever use of teak and of course the luxurious blue Alcantara seating. There is a large “L” shaped settee area to port and a spacious two seater settee on the starboard. There is a large table which also doubles as a chart table if required for Ocean passages.

Nav Station:- when designing a Nav station for an Ocean going vessel you know that there is almost always someone sitting on station. That is why the ergonomics of the instrumentation has to be suitable to all members of the Crew. The forward facing Nav station positioned aft of the saloon allows communication with the helmsman if required.

Galley:- the Galley is positioned on the port side opposite the Nav station. There is ample storage and enough equipment to cater for all the crew at the one sitting. The four burner Force 10 cooker with oven and grill. There is also a refrigerator, stainless steel sinks and plenty of storage for the days food. To conserve water there is both a freshwater and seawater foot pump.

Master Cabin :- Oyster has built worldwide reputation for quality and comfort and there is no better place to find this in the aft Master Cabin. The Captain can enjoy a large comfortable cabin fully equipped without losing sight of endurance as the key factor. There is a large double berth offset from the centre with a sprung mattress. A curved settee and dressing table, a hanging locker, drawers and of course the storage space. Fully en suite with large Par bowl WC, washbasin, mirror and storage lockers. No en suite facility would be complete without the ubiquitous and essential shower unit with its own curtain and teak planked grating. The holding tank is positioned in the aft cabin.

The above specification is impressive and has been designed as only Holman and Pye know how. What makes an Oyster stand out from the average boat is the attention to detail. Now imagine you are heading off into the sunset for an Ocean crossing. How do you pass the time on board? That is where Oyster build in its own entertainment system and one to be proud of.
