Engines

This vessel has been designed to have the minimum of maintenance so that means it has to have the most reliable of parts fitted to achieve this. That is why the Manufacturers after careful deliberation settled for the ubiquitous Perkins sabre M130C engine. The normally aspirated 110 HP at 2000rpm. The engines working in the environment that they are designed to do, have been designed with closed loop keel cooling system. This allows the vessel to operate without fouling the intakes with debris. Should the waters be too warm for keel cooling then the manufacturers can work with you to design a sea water system through heat exchangers as an alternative.

With spares available in every port, it makes sense to make life simple for the owner operators. The reverse Gearbox has a heavy duty multi plate which is oil actuated and has an Ahead or Astern 2:1 reduction. The power is then transmitted down the 50mm stainless steel shaft through the bronze or cutless bearings with the soft packing stuffing box and gland, lubricator and sand excluder. Lubrication being Marine grade grease. At the end of the shaft is the right handed three blade manganese propeller fitted with 635 x 393mm pitch. For added protection the manufacturers install a rope stripper to the prop to prevent fouling when in use.

Construction

This rugged shallow draft Multipurpose Workboat is designed to be used in Harbours and Inland pollution control and clean operations. The construction is simple as it is a steel box form with bluff bow and shaped stern. It is rigidly constructed in 6mm Lloyds Grade A plate with continuous welded butts and seams. It has longitudinally stiffened channel section girders also forming the bed for the main engine and hydraulic pump. The load is dispersed on heels of hydraulically operated scoop loader beams, rams etc through the interconnection of the channel section pillars.

The Keel Plate is 12mm and ALL steel is Lloyds Grade A plate. Transverse strength is by angle bar intermittently welded at 609mm intervals with robust all welded construction to floors and curlings / beams by lapped brackets. The shaped stern is stiffened at forward end of transom space by internal section post. The external protection at the bottom is by two parallel keel chocks and at the sides by horizontal wood fenders through bolted to suitably spaced and welded retaining angle brackets.

The shaped rudder is of suitably strengthened and stiffened single 6mm plate.

The decks are made of 6mm checker plate.

The Control cabin sides are integrated with engine space skylight coaming and interruption in continuity of deck strength compensated by longitudinal angle bar girders.

Two watertight skylights 3mm M S plate with overlaps and fitted rubber jointing in way of impingement with raised sills are located above main engine.

The fabricated funnel is centrally situated in engine space, housing exhaust from main engine and incorporating ventilation louvers.

There are three engine room vents fitted.

Engine space access is by way of ladder from skylight at aft end. This compartment is fitted with 3mm checker plate on the floor. Port and starboard sides of longitudinal girders secured by cheesehead screws. The Control Cabin winshield and side windows are of toughened glass set in aluminium castings clamped to the wheelhouse. Wynn straight line wiper is fitted centrally.

Twin grab rails fitted to Cabin and skylight tops.

The Mast incorporates audible warning device and navigation lights.

For safety there is a guard rail fitted with suitably placed stanchions fitted at the stern.

Four lifting Lugs are welded suitably placed for lifting by crane onto lorry.

Four twin mooring bollards through bolted to deck.

Forward and aft fareleads are also installed.

For protection anodes are fitted to the hull as appropriate.

CONTROL CABIN
Access to the Control cabin is by sliding door on roller bearings, port and starboard sides above a 229mm sill. Insulation of cabin top and sides by 25mm mineral glass wool and overlaid lining in Marine ply with laminate finish.

For comfort two marine electric fans are also installed.
