7.5m Cargo Hovercraft

Wright International Ltd is now able to offer a wide range of hover crafts direct from the manufacturer in Australia. The hover crafts on offer all share the same amazing versatility in being able to work in water, snow, ice, deserts, swamps, marsh and dry land or even a combination of them all. This particular hover craft can travel at speeds of around 45 knots and operate in conditions up to 2.5m. What is more impressive is that this hover craft can carry 2000kg plus 2 crew and would be ideal as an alternative to quads, landing crafts or snow mobiles.

Engines

This hover craft is arguably more reliable and economical than your more traditional alternatives. At 7.5m in length, this hover craft is powered by a Steyr diesel engine allowing you to cruise at 45 knots for approximately 12 hours and only burn around 15 – 20 litres per hour.

This engine is a 6 cylinder turbo charged diesel that is inter cooled and gives great performance in terms of not only top speed, but manoeuvrability as well.

Construction

The hover craft as shown and priced includes a single bucket seat for the pilot with two auxiliary seats for the crew. However, if required it could be supplied as a cabined passenger craft that would accommodate 15 passengers and 2 crew. The cabin could be made so that it is removable to increase the versatility of the product. Air conditioning and heating could also be included in the package. Larger fuel tanks, mounting points for lifting davits can also be incorporated, as well as a moon well in the centre of the deck. The cost varies accordingly for these options

Deck Structure:

The deck on this craft is flat and is constructed of a fibreglass core sandwich construction. It is fitted with tie down lugs for cargo security.

Hull Structure:

The hull is moulded fibreglass with a gel coat finish and has a 20-year service factor. It is also core sandwich construction and buoyancy foam is incorporated into the hull construction. This allows the hover craft to float even if there is no power from the engine.

Thrust Fan:

The 1.5 metre diameter 6 bladed axial fan provides the thrust for the hovercraft. The fan cowling is made from e-glass core sandwich. At the rear of the cowling are 4 air rudders that provide the steering for the hovercraft. There are also 2 elevator rudders that provide some longitudinal control. The drive to the thrust fan is via a tooth belt.

Steering System:

Marine quality hydraulic steering provides precise non-feedback steering.

Lift Fan:

One centrifugal fan provides the lift, the casing of which is manufactured from kevlar/carbon fibre. The impeller and shaft is stainless steel. A single hydraulic motor drives this fan. The speed of the fan can be varied also. A tachometer is fitted to the fan so that the speed can be monitored at the helm station.

Skirt System:

This hovercraft is fitted with a multi segmented skirt system. This provides the best performance and stability for a craft of this size. The material used has been developed and tested over many years, and the result is that we have a durable and flexible material that will perform well in the most adverse conditions. Other skirt systems are available such as loop segment and bag and finger if required.
