Engines

MAIN ENGINE

This vessel has the familiar Dutch Trawler configuration of the large single engine and the smaller 360 Deg rotating drive unit, which has proved so successful a combination. The Main Engine is a Wichmann 6AX diesel engine rated at 1500BHP. Wichmann has earned a enviable record for reliability and longevity ever since the first one rolled of the production line in 1903 in Norway. Wichmann was of course taken over by Wartsila and continued making engines up to 1997.

Not only were they reliable they were also economic and this vessel has fuel consumption figures of :-

Cruising Speed 7.5 Knots 1.1 Tonnes per day
Max Speed 10 Knots 4.0 Tonnes per day.

SECONDARY PROPULSION

There can be few better ways to have a secondary propulsion than to have a Schottel SRP (Steerable RudderPropellers) 300 / 300 rated at 590BHP.

Construction

Manufactured in Norway in 1973 this vessel was originally a Stern Trawler and the construction at that time was that vessels were built to last. It was rebuilt in 1991 and converted to a hospital standby vessel as it was extremely sea worthy and could endure whatever the North Sea had to offer.

This vessel has just undergone its Classification and is in class until 2012. Not only is it in Class but it is in Det Norske Veritas +1A1 ICE C Class and is survivor Group B (up to 300 Survivors).
