Engines

MAIN ENGINE
There can be few workboats operators who will not agree that the Garner engines were one of the most reliable you could have and would burn the least amount of fuel whilst doing so. This one is fitted with the Gardner 4 L W diesel engine. The 4LW develops 62BHP at 1500rpm and has a swept volume of 340 cu ins (5.6 Litres). The reliable power source is a Gardner 4 LW diesel, running through a hydraulic box to a Kitchen Rudder. These steering/speed control rudders are renowned for great ease of use, allowing precise positioning.

The engine is fitted mid ships and has a sectional insulated engine-box that comes apart in 5 easy to lift sections, giving full deck level access to the engine (no excuses for not carrying out regular servicing). This box is strong enough to stand on and becomes part of the working deck area.

There are two auto/manual electric bilge pumps with float switches along with a manual bilge pumping system to all compartments and bilge alarm.

Smoke detectors/alarms are fitted along with manual fire pump (currently detached) and fire extinguishers.

Construction

At 35’ long and weighing in at just under 9 tonnes, she is a good sturdy boat with impeccable handling manners and creating virtually no wash when underway. The GRP is almost 20mm thick and the vessel has never had to worry about lack of maintenance considering it was owned by the Royal Navy and a Port Authority for most of its life.

Accomodation

On board, there is a wheelhouse, galley, toilet and main cabin.

The wheelhouse is fitted with cox’ns seat; compass; Sailor VHF radio; mains heater; light controls; flares in sealed container etc. and an all-important hatch to the galley.

The galley is basic but functional with gas cooker/hob/grill, hot water heater and sink/drainer plus some cupboard space.

Toilet is electric flush (24v) with twin pumps for intake and macerator outlet

The main cabin has been cleared of some of the old wiring looms used for the survey works but has been left in a comfortable workboat condition. There is a 24v to 240v inverter; new ‘Stirling’ automatic battery charger, charging all three banks of 24v batteries. (One pair replaced this year).

240v standby heater and a Webasto warm air heating system keep this area warm and dry in the worst of weathers. In this cabin there is a VHF repeater station; life jackets; full 24v lighting; microwave; electricity control panel and instrumentation; original large chart table and drawers; ample cupboard and under-seat storage; bilge pump controls and underfloor mounting for transducers.

This area would easily convert to make a good living space and a sister ship to this has already been converted into a very attractive and comfortable live aboard motor cruiser. This vessel comes with all navigation lights, working mast, fenders ropes etc in a ‘ready to go’ condition.

Overall the vessel is reliable and in good working order but with a requirement for some aesthetic work to bring her up to scratch. Life raft; life jackets 2 anchors; stainless steel wire grab rail (currently removed); box of spare parts (including Kitchen rudder clams) fenders and ropes, all included in the sale price.
