MAIN ENGINE
This vessel is powered by the world famous Lister Blackstone ERS 8M engine rated at 660BHP (492Kw) and operated on Marine Gas Oil driving a controllable pitch propeller through a Slack and Parr reduction gearbox. This engine is designed to operate at just 750 rpm and is very fuel efficient as a result. Working as a research vessel the Captain is often called upon to make changes in course in a very tight confine and to aid him he has the extra advantage of having not only a bow thruster but stern thruster as well.
